What Do Cowboys and College Football Fans Have in Common? They Love Las Vegas In December!

As Las Vegas gets decked-out in holiday splendor, thousands flock to the city sporting, not Santa suits, but their best western attire to celebrate rodeo’s premier event – National Finals Rodeo. Also seen around town in December are lots of college football fans. You’ll recognize them by their gear and their spirited support.   

 

 

Wrangler National Finals Rodeo

December 2 – December 11, 2021

For 10 days in December cowboys, cowgirls and rodeo fans from all over the world take over Las Vegas for the National Finals Rodeo (NFR). So grab your boots and kick up your heels. When the 2021 NFR starts in the Thomas & Mack Center on December 2, it promises to be filled with thrills, spills and the most exciting rodeo action in the sport – plus so much more!

Since 1985 Las Vegas has played host to this premier championship rodeo event, which brings together the top competitors in professional rodeo to compete for world titles in such events as bull riding, steer wrestling and bronc riding.

Even if you don’t attend the rodeo, there’s lots to do during NFR!

 

Downtown Hoedown

Saddle up and kick off your NFR festivities at the Fremont Street Experiences’ Downtown Hoedown on December 1. The annual free concert features three stages with full-length performances by Jordan Davis, Frontmen of Country and Diamond Rio.  

 

Cowboy Christmas

Whether you prefer barrel racing or bull riding, you’re going to love the NFR shopping. Check out Cowboy Christmas at the Las Vegas Convention Center, December 1-11, 2021. Cowboy Christmas, the longest running gift show of National Finals Rodeo, boasting more than 500,000 square feet  of show floor hosting 350+ vendors from across the United States and Canada. Each year, these vendors showcase their unique products including customized jewelry, western wear, boots and spurs, furniture, original art, handmade crafts and pottery.

 

The Best In Country Music

Celebs love the rodeo, too, and many will be performing on the Strip during NFR. After all the evenings’ rodeo action, star-studded country singers like Reba, Brooks & Dunn, Shania Twain, Dwight Yoakam and Terri Clark take the stage at a number of resort/casino properties. 

 

Allegiant Stadium Hosts College Football’s Best 

December begins and ends with college football fans descending on Las Vegas for the PAC-12 Championship game and the Las Vegas Bowl.

 

PAC-12 Vegas Style

The 2021 PAC-12 College Football Championship Game is on Friday Dec. 3 at the new Allegiant Stadium, home of the NFL Las Vegas Raiders. The Pac-12 Championship Game faces off the teams with the best conference records in the North and South PAC divisions. This year it’s the Oregon Ducks and Utah Utes.

Las Vegas Bowl

College bowl games are a blast even if your team isn’t playing. Some have big parades while others are named after snacks. But only one has the benefit of being in the Entertainment and Sports Capital of the World – the SRS Distribution Las Vegas Bowl. And this year, what better way to kick off your Vegas New Year’s weekend celebration than the 29th edition of the Bowl on December 30 at Allegiant Stadium. This year’s game will be televised on ESPN and feature a team from the Pac-12 Conference against a team from the Big Ten Conference. Tickets go fast. (Heads-up: if you really want to get a jump on tickets for a spectacular college football showdown, Vegas and Allegiant Stadium are hosting the 2024 Vegas Kickoff Classic featuring Pac-12’s USC and SEC’s LSU).
